For matchday 24 of the Spanish League, Villarreal welcomed Levante at El Madrigal Stadium and got a 2-1 victory. Gerar Moreno and Moi Gomez scored the winning goals of the hosts. While Borja Mayoral scored the only one of the visitors.
The Yellow Submarine took the lead within 9 minutes. Paco Alcacer sent the ball to Moreno, who finished in the bottom corner and put the ball into the back of the net, breaking the deadlock.
The second goal almost came a few minutes later, with Alcacer himself, after a pass from Mario Gaspar. However, the number 17 sent the ball wide. Levante then tried to create opportunities as well and got one at the 24th minute, with Enis Bardhi. However, the shot stopped on the good goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo.
The match continued played by both sides, with a lot of fouls and not real chances of goal for any of the teams, leaving the home side one goal ahead on the scoring before the half-time.
Right at the beginning of the second half, the Frogs were able to find the equalizer. At the 56th minute, Carlos Clerc crossed to Mayoral who sent his finish in the right corner of the goal.
However, it didn’t take long until Villarreal were ahead on the scoring once again. 5 minutes later, Gerard Moreno assisted Gomez, who kicked from outside the box and into the back of the net, past goalkeeper Aitor Fernandez.
Again at a disadvantage, the visitors had other chances to equalize, as well as the hosts had chances to increase their lead. However, both goalkeepers made good saves, and the strikers were suffering from a lack of aim. With that, the scoreboard remained with 2-1.
The victory took the Yellow Submarine to the 6th position, with 38 points. Levante, on the other hand, dropped to 13th place, with the same 29 points. Both teams come back to the pitch next weekend, where they will face the two teams from Madrid on matchday 25. Villarreal will face Atletico away, while Levante will welcome Real.
