This Sunday, playing away from home, the Wolves went to London and defeated Tottenham by 3-2. In a well-played game, the visitors were able to get an amazing comeback and leave the pitch with the 3 points. Steven Bergwijn and Serge Aurier scored for the hosts. While Matt Doherty, Diogo Jota, and Raul Jimenez scored for the visitors.
The first good chance of the match was from the Spurs and they kept on attacking after that. It didn’t take long until they opened the scoring. At the 13th minute, Dele Alli’s shot was saved by the goalkeeper, however, in the rebound, Bergwijn put the ball into the back of the net.
Wolverhampton didn’t feel the goal and kept on doing their game. At the 27th minute, they found the equalizer. Vinagre got free down the left and crossed low. The ball went straight to the Spurs’ defender, Tanganga, but he failed to adjust his body and simply knocked it straight to Doherty. The Ireland international only had to slam it to the back of the net. 1-1.
Before the end of the first half, Tottenham were once again ahead. At the 45th, in a rare moment of quality, Aurier danced inside from the right and sent a strong left-footed finish into the far corner and past Rui Patricio.
After half-time, the Wolves were the better team and tried to get the opportunity to equalize things up once again. And it didn’t take long. At the 57th minute, Doherty got on the right and his low cross was only diverted into Jota’s path by Gazzaniga. From a yard out, it was impossible for the number 18 to miss, and things were leveled again.
Tottenham were paying for the missed chances they got and things got worse for Jose Mourinho’s men at the 73rd minute when Wolverhampton was able to score the third. Jimenez, who wasn’t playing well, collected the ball on the right corner, sat down Tanganga with a lovely dummy, and finished high past Gazzaniga.
It was an amazing comeback from Nuno Espirito Santo’s men, winning once again at Tottenham’s home. With the result, the Wolves overcame the Spurs on the table and are now on the 6th position, with 42 points. Tottenham remains with the 40 points, in the 7th place.
