West Ham confirmed the signing of former Manchester City and Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri on Monday.
The 31-year-old Nasri arrives at the Hammers after having spent the past year and a half inactive after failing a doping test.
He was last on the books of Turkish club Antalyaspor before having his contract terminated in January 2018.
Even though Nasri is now older, he will still have what it takes to be an asset to the Hammers team.
He brings with him a wealth of experience and will also bring in a winning mentality to Manuel Pellegrini’s side as a two-time Premier League winner with The City. Nasri has also previously worked well with West Ham boss Pellegrini while the two were on the books of City.
The midfield has proven to be a problem area for the East London club this season. Manuel Lanzini has been ruled out of action for the rest of the season while Jack Wilshere is very injury prone.
Nasri will join West Ham initially on a deal which will run till the end of the season. However, if he performs well enough, he will earn a contract extension beyond this season.
After the deal was completed, Pellegrini said as per West Ham’s official website: “I am very pleased to welcome Samir to West Ham United.
“He is a player I obviously know well from our time together at Manchester City and I am happy to be working with him again”.
“He has been working very hard here in recent weeks to build up his fitness condition after a long period without playing, and he is now very determined to return to his best”.
“Samir will give us another dimension in our attacking play. He is a very technical player, with excellent quality on the ball, and the ability to create big moments in important matches”.
“He already has very good experience of the Premier League and we hope that he will have a positive impact on the team between now and the end of the season.”
