Dwight Gayle moved on a loan to West Brom this summer from Newcastle. The deal saw Salomon Rondon move the other way around. After being relegated from the Premier League last season, the Baggies are looking to get instant promotion back to the top flight.
In Gayle, they have a striker who is a proven scorer at Championship level. The 28-year-old scored 23 Championship goals during the 2016-17 season and helped the Magpies win promotion to the Premier League.
He was less than successful in the top-flight last term for Rafa Benitez’s men as he managed just six goals from 35 games.
He has so far scored three goals from six games in the Championship this season for Darren Moore’s Baggies side. If Gayle’s current form is a sign of things to come, then the Baggies could stand a good chance of winning instant promotion to the Premier League.
A report from the Sunday People has suggested that Gayle could possibly move to the lucrative Chinese Super League at the end of this season and earn wages of £200 000 per week.
If West Brom does fail to win promotion this season, it is hard to see them keeping hold of Gayle. The striker should however seriously consider moving to the Far-East even if his club does win promotion. The wages that he will be offered are great. In addition to this, Gayle has very little chance of ever playing for England. There are plenty of names ahead of him in the Three Lions pecking order. Also, Gareth Southgate prefers to select younger players so it is easier to see someone like Dominic Solanke or Tammy Abraham being selected ahead of Gayle.
There is still a long season ahead and many things will happen between now and the conclusion of this season. Gayle should however not pass up this opportunity. It can assure him of financial security for a long time to come.
