This Wednesday, Real Madrid beat Mallorca at Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano for the 31st Matchday of Spanish La Liga. Brazilian Vinicius Junior was the highlight of the Merengues, scoring the opener and commanding most of the offensive actions. Zinedine Zidane’s men won 2-0 with goals from Vinicius and captain Sergio Ramos, which led Madrid back to La Liga’s 1st place!
Zidane surprised everyone, as he lined up Gareth Bale as a starter. Yeah, that same Welshman who displayed a banner while on international duty for the Welsh National Team saying that Wales and Golf were more important for him than Madrid.
I thought that was brilliant from him, by the way.
For real into the game now, the game started electric, as Mallorca also desperately needed the three points hoping to get a boost in the fight against relegation.
Lago Junior forced goalkeeper Courtois to make some important saves under the quarter-hour mark, but then, Vinicius Junior displayed his Brazilian talent to break the deadlock for Madrid.
On 18 mins, the Brazilian combined a give-and-go with Luka Modric and ended up seeing himself face-to-face against goalkeeper Reina, as the Real Madrid player flicked it over the keeper to open the scoring.
A few minutes later, Vinicius had the chance to make it two, but the ball hit the crossbar.
After the break, Real Madrid managed to settle things down and to guarantee the important three points. On 55 minutes, captain Ramos took a free-kick and curled it into the top right corner, to double Real Madrid’s lead.
With the 2-0 win, Real Madrid got back to La Liga’s top spot, with the same 68 points of Barcelona. Therefore, Mallorca remains in the relegation zone with 26 points and occupies the 18th position.
For the 32nd La Liga Matchday, Mallorca will face Athletic Bilbao, 10th place with 42 points, at the San Mames Stadium. In addition, the Merengues will play against Espanyol.
