This Sunday, Real Madrid faced Barcelona, at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, for the 26th matchweek of Spain’s La Liga. Los Blancos built the 2-0 win at El Clasico in the second half, as Brazilian Vinicius Junior ran the show for Zinedine Zidane’s side. Vinicius himself and Mariano scored the goals for Real Madrid.
With the 2-0 win, Real took the top of the league with 56 points, as Barcelona went down to 2nd place.
There are always high expectations when it comes to El Clasico, and this time, it was no different. The hosts started off as the brighter side and threatened Ter Stegen through both Karim Benzema, and Toni Kroos. Things got a little bit heated-up as Carvajal and Jordi Alba almost went at it and were shown a yellow card subsequently.
Lionel Messi even tried to orchestrate Barca, but the visitors did pretty poorly, especially at the few opportunities they had in the final third. With that, both sides went goalless at half-time.
Real Madrid kept on with their aggressive stance in the second half, and Vinicius Junior grabbed the opened on 70 minutes. Kroos was the architect of it, as the German assisted the Brazilian, who got inside the area from the left, and saw his shot deflected off Pique as the ball went in. 1-0 Real Madrid.
Barcelona almost equalized with Messi, but Marcelo saved Madrid with the tackle. On 90 minutes, Zidane introduced Mariano and he made an instant impact, as he scored on 90+1 to wrap it up for Los Blancos at El Clasico.
It wasn’t a brilliant performance from Real Madrid here, but it was enough to outplay the uninspired Barcelona, who seems to be just an ordinary team when his top star, Lionel Messi, can’t display his regular genius with the ball on his feet.
With the 2-0 win, Real Madrid retook the top spot of the Spanish League with 56 points. On the next matchday, the Merengues will face Betis away. In contrast, Barcelona, ??2nd place in the competition with 55 points, will face Real Sociedad, 6th place with 43 points at the Camp Nou.
