Will Barcelona have a new coach in 2019? It is not certain yet, but Ernesto Valverde has not guaranteed that he will continue as coach of the Catalan team for the next season. With recent titles in La Liga and King’s Cup, he is still trying to push the Blaugrana team forward in the UEFA Champions League, where they have not been in the quarterfinals since 2015 when they were champions for the last time.
Valverde’s contract is valid until the end of the 2019/20 season, but both he and Barcelona have the option to break the deal without any burden already in June this year. And it is an option that Valverde, at the moment, does not rule out.
“I do not know what I’m going to do next season, in football, who knows? We all know how things are, I never think much ahead,” he told Barça TV. “For us, two months is already thinking much ahead. If you win a match, everyone is happy, if you lose, everyone gets on your feet.” he continued.
After a year and a half completed in Catalunya, the coach admits that he still feels the weight of working in a club of the span of Barcelona.
“It’s a continuous learning process. Every day something happens that you have to deal with in one war or another. We all have a common goal, that the club works and grows every day, that we play well and everyone is happy.” he stated. “You’re not always going to do the right thing, but I accept it and take it well, trying to learn always, it’s all very intense.” he completed.
With the end of recess because of Christmas and New Year, Barcelona will return to action next Sunday (6th), when they face Getafe away from Camp Nou, for La Liga. Valverde will still be in command of the club, but maybe, after the middle of the year, we’ll see a new guy on the bench of the Catalan team.
