With two goals from Bundesliga’s top scorer Timo Werner, RB Leipzig defeated Union Berlin by 3-1 this Saturday, with a second-half comeback. The match was valid for the 18th Matchday of the German Bundesliga.
More than 42 thousand fans went to the Red Bull Arena to support the current leaders of the Bundesliga. However, things didn’t start well.
After 10 minutes of the match, it was the visitors that celebrated when Marius Bulter opened the scoring. The play started with a mistake from Marcel Halsternberg in the middle of the field.
Leipzig were having difficulties to create plays and to find good chances. They only threatened goalkeeper Rafaç Gikiewicz at the 24th minute, with a shot by Patrik Shick.
In the second half, however, Leipzig were able to get the comeback. In a great phase, Timo Werner hit a beautiful half-volley from the entrance of the box to make it 1-1 at the 51st minute.
Six minutes later, Marcel Sabitzer guaranteed the comeback for the home team. He took advantage of a mistake of Union Berlin’s defense after a corner-kick to make it 2-1.
And there was still time for another goal from Werner. After a cross that came from the right, the number 11 controlled the ball from the left side of the attack and shot, giving no chances of defense to keeper Gikiewiccz.
With the two goals of the match, Werner is now the top scorer of the Bundesliga with 20 goals scored. He’s got one more than Robert Lewandowski (however, Bayern still plays this Matchweek on Sunday).
With the 3-1 win, the home team remains at the top of the league now with five points clear of Borussia Monchengladbach, who lost on Friday to Schalke. Union Berlin appears in the 12th position, with 20 points.
