This Monday, Porto went to the Sao Miguel Stadium and reached their 6th consecutive victory in the Liga NOS. With goals from Wilson Manafa and Ivan Marcano, the Dragons confirmed their favoritism against Santa Clara and not only beat the hosts 2-0 but also overcame former leaders Benfica and stole the top spot from the arch-rival.

The visitors started the game on top of the home side and soon the Blues reached their first goal. It was through a masterpiece of togetherness that Manafa combined a give-and-go with Sergio Oliveira, and rolled past the keeper to make it one. 1-0 Porto.

Then it was time for Santa Clara to raise their tempo, and they almost got the equalizer in a Lincoln free-kick. However, the ball smashed into the crossbar.

After half-time, Porto retook control of the match and even lost a penalty -once again-. After the Santa Clara goalkeeper brought Otavio down inside the box, Alex Telles got the chance of doubling the lead from the spot, but he wasted it. Porto seems to have terrible luck when it comes to scoring from penalties.

However, they weren’t punished, as soon after, Ivan Marcano scored and enshrined victory for the Dragons. Sergio Oliveira whipped a free-kick into the area and the defender appeared free to head home.

With the victory against Santa Clara and the draw of Benfica, Porto reached the leadership of Liga NOS. Now, the Dragons have 59 points, against 58 from the Lisbon rival.

In the next round, they will defend the leadership against Rio Ave, at the Estadio do Dragao. Santa Clara, on the other hand, reached its second consecutive defeat but remained in 8th place with 29 points. The team will have a direct confrontation against the 9th placed Gil Vicente away from home in the next round.
