This Wednesday Porto and Viseu faced each other at the Estadio do Dragao for one of the semifinals of the Portuguese Cup. The home side was superior and dominated the match. The goals from Alex Telles, Ze Luis, and Sergio Oliveira guaranteed the 3-0 victory and qualified the Dragons for another final in the competition.

The match didn’t start with much intensity, none of the teams were creating chances of goal. After the 17th minute, things got more interesting as Porto was awarded a penalty after Ze Luis was brought down inside the box. The Brazilian Alex Telles stepped up and slotted home, sending goalkeeper Ricardo Fernandes to the wrong side.

Even with the 1-0 advantage, Porto didn’t stop attacking and started putting more and more pressure on the visitors. With the intensity, the Dragons created some good chances of increasing the scoring with Nakajima and Manafa, but both sent their shots wide. At the end of the first half, Ze Luis still had two real chances of goal but missed them.

The scenario didn’t change in the second half. Porto kept on way better than Viseu and didn’t take long until they finally scored their second goal. At the 64th minute, after an unsuccessful corner kick, the ball was left on the right with Alex Telles. He crossed it back to the box and Ze Luis headed home to double the scoring for the home side.

Goalkeeper Fernandes made some good saves, avoiding what could be the third goal of Porto. Unfortunately for the keeper, at the 72nd minute, Sergio Oliveira was able to put the ball into the back of the net made it three. At first, the referee disallowed the goal for an offside position, however, after VAR checked the play, it was confirmed that he wasn’t offside.

With the 3-0 victory, Porto guaranteed their place in the final of the Portuguese Cup, where they will face Benfica. Viseu, even with the loss, has all the reasons to feel proud, once they made a historic campaign for a team that plays the Second Division of the Portuguese Championship.

Both teams come back to the pitch next Sunday, for the national league. The Dragons will visit Vitoria de Guimaraes, for Liga NOS, while Viseu will face Covilha, away, for the Pro League.
