At the Louis II stadium, Monaco hosted Montpellier, for the matchday 25 of Ligue 1. The goal from Islam Slimani gave the 1-0 victory to the hosts and guaranteed the 5th place, overcoming Montpellier themselves on the table.

The match started with Monaco commanding the actions. After all, the team was playing in front of their fans and needed the result. At the 16th minute, Ben Yedder sent a beautiful shot from outside the box and scared goalkeeper Dimitry Bertaud. Honestly, both sides had risked a lot from outside the box, but there were just a few moments when they were really able to strike the ball towards the goal.

After half-time, the home side came a little more focused and was finally able to break the deadlock. At the 52nd minute, Slimani scored and put his team ahead on the scoring.

With the seatback, Montpellier went full attack in order to get an equalizer. They even had a good chance at the 69th minute, with Laborde. The number 10 was able to overcome the defense, but when it was time to shot, he sent the ball wide and missed the best chance for the visitors.

Monaco kept superior in the match, with more ball possession and more chances of goal. Their confidence was high and they controlled the match with no problems, getting the three points with a simple 1-0 win.

The victory made the home team gain a position in the table, reaching 5th place with 38, stealing the position from the same Montpellier, who are now in the 6th position with 37 points.

Both teams now rest the week and focus on their next matches for Ligue 1’s matchday 26. Monaco will travel to face Dijon FCO, on Saturday. Montpellier will travel to face Angers on the same day.
