This Thursday, Sheffield United welcomed Tottenham for matchday 32 of the Premier League. At the Bramall Lane, the hosts made a good game and were able to leave with a 3-1 victory. Sander Berge, Lys Mousset, and Oli McBurnie guaranteed the three points. Harry Kane scored the consolation for the visitors.
The home side started the first half being the brighter side, bringing danger to their opponents’ defensive system, but not really threatening goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. After a few minutes, though, Jose Mourinho’s men managed to equalize the plays, having more the ball. However, they were not able to shot, once the Blades defense was making a good job.
It took time for the first chance to appear, and it was for the visitors. Harry Kane entered the box and sent the ball wide. After that little scare, Sheffield were able to make a good play and break the deadlock. At the 31st minute, Chris Basham found Berge inside the box, who sent a strong shot into the back of the net to open the scoring.
Tottenham even got the equalizer still during the first half, with Kane himself, but after VAR checking the play, the goal was ruled out for a handball.
In the second half, the Spurs came back putting pressure on the hosts, looking for a goal. However, the Blades’ defensive system was on a really good day. With a solid defense, the hosts focused on counter-attacks, and it was like that they doubled the scoring. At the 69th minute, they found enough space to exchange passes inside the box and the ball ended up with Mousset, who pushed into the back of an empty net.
Mourinho tried to make some changes to see if the Spurs were able to go back to the game. And they even tried to threaten goalkeeper Dean Henderson’s goal, but with no success.
Close to the end of the match, Sheffield found the back of the nets again. At the 84th minute, Berge found McBurnie inside the box and the number 9 sent a strong shot, with no chances to Lloris.
At the 90th minute, the Spurs got the consolation, with Kane. But it was already too late and the final scoring was 3-1 to the hosts.
With the victory, Sheffield United reached 47 points, now in 7th place. Meanwhile, Tottenham stopped at 45 points, dropping to 9th place.
