Signed back in 2018 under the highest transfer fee of a goalkeeper in history, Kepa Arrizabalaga has yet to prove himself at Chelsea. Following frustrating performances under the Blue sticks, the Spaniard keeper could be on his way back to his homeland.
Reports coming from England suggests that La Liga side Sevilla, are plotting about landing a possible loan deal with Chelsea.
According to the English newspaper “The Sun”, the Spaniard himself sees the possibility of a loan as a chance to regain confidence, however, he wants to go to a leading club in Europe.
A definitive negotiation can be ruled out as only two of the six-year contract between the goalkeeper and the London club has been completed. The Blues would only accept selling the keeper if they recovered the £71.6 million investment made to bring Kepa to England.
Ridiculous figures for such an unexperienced keeper like Kepa.
Teams like Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Atletico de Madrid are unlikely to look for the Chelsea goalkeeper. Thus, Sevilla could be Kepa’s destiny. However, the £150,000 weekly wage can be a problem, as the Blues require in their loans that the other party pays the athlete’s full salary.
In the current season, Kepa got to lose the starter position to Caballero. However, the Argentine’s poor performances made Frank Lampard promote the Spaniard’s return. In the Premier League, Chelsea has conceded 44 goals so far and is the worst defense among the top eight.
The constant mistakes of the current goalkeepers are making the Blues think about new signings. The most recent rumor is that Chelsea would be interested in PSG’s Alphonse Areola. The name of Borussia Dortmund’s Roman Burki was also a real possibility, but the negotiation was quickly turned out by the German club.
That would be a win-win situation for both Chelsea and Kepa. The Blues made such a bad deal paying so high for the keeper, who has still a lot to prove in his brief career so far.
