It’s official, Italian football fans have pretty much nothing else to do! With the whole coronavirus situation having Italy as the largest focus of the pandemic disease in the European continent plus the fact that Italian people are quarantined at their own homes. The Serie A was postponed to May, the athletes are isolated in their houses and some even tested positive to the Virus, like Rugani and Matuidi from Juventus.
However, a TV program in the country had a great idea to entertain not only the fans but also the players who love the sport and created the Quarantine League. It will be an E-Sports tournament played online. it’s basically going to be a FIFA 20 tournament involving some stars of the Italian football.
Le lene, from channel Italia 1, were the ones to come up with the idea and many players who are currently playing and some that made history at the Calcio decided to participate in order to have a little fun during the isolation.
Some of the players that will appear in this online competition are Mario Balotelli, who is currently playing for Brescia; Fiorentina’s Federico Chiesa, Serie A top scorer, and Lazio player, Ciro Immobile, AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma, Brescia’s Sandro Tonali, and Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic.
Apart from current professional players, some legends of the Italian Football will also step up. Some of them are the legendary Andrea Pirlo, Marco Materazzi -yeah, that same one who got headbutted by Zinedine Zidane in the 2006 Germany World Cup final-, and Fabio Cannavaro.
The tournament will start next Thursday, March 19, and you can watch the tournament live on both Le Iene’s Facebook or Instagram, as well as its official website. The final will happen next Monday, March 23. So, who do you think will be the champion of the Quarantine League?! I think the final will be between Mario Balotelli and Andrea Pirlo, with the latter smashing the Brescia striker.
