Sebastian Giovinco is back in the Italian National Team, the “Azzurra” after three long years of absence. The star is the biggest new on the list of players made by Roberto Mancini for the matches against Ukraine and Poland. The 31-year-old player was out since 2015, making his last appearance against Norway, on Italy’s victory by 2×1.
Giovinco is known as the “formica atomica” – which means atomic ant – because of his speed and started his professional career in Juventus. There, he played a total of 132 matches, scoring 20 goals and giving 23 assists. He also played for Empoli – in 2007/08 season – and for Parma – in 2010/11 – both on a loan.
Currently, he is playing in Canadian Toronto FC and the atomic ant is showing great skills and abilities. His numbers are pretty good this year, once, in MLS, Giovinco has played a total of 25 matches, in which he scored 12 goals and gave 6 assists. And that was probably the reason for his return.
But the question is… Is this a good thing?! Well, I think it is.
As a fast midfielder who is capable of creating good chances and scoring goals, Sebastian Giovinco can be useful to help Italy, once the Azzurra is really having problems on that sector of the pitch. Maybe, the atomic ant can bring up a little of his energy to the others and bring back the good football and the good days. And that is certainly what all of the football fans – especially the Italians – want to see.
