This Saturday, Schalke 04, and Hoffenheim dueled at the Veltins-Arena for the 25th matchweek of the German Bundesliga. Both sides shared the points in a 1-1 draw, as the result was not favorable for either team. That’s because both have been facing in a negative streak in the league, with five games without a single win.
Despite the frustrating scoring, the match started quite busy. In the first four minutes, two real chances were created. Guido Burgstaller and Weston McKennie tried to open the scoring for Schalke but they were prevented by Hoffenheim’s defense.
Hosts Schalke kept on with the press and finally reached the opening goal in the 20th minute. Jonjoe Kenny assisted McKennie, as the latter found the back of the net.
After the break, we witnessed a different game, as both sides dropped the tempo, but there was enough time for another two goals. The first one, however, was ruled out for offside, as Hoffenheim’s Sebastian Rudy assisted Benjamin Hubner, but the latter was out of position when he scored.
The goal ruled out somehow had a positive effect on Hoffenheim’s behavior in the match. The visitors grew, pressed Schalke, and snatched the equalizer on 69 minutes. Hubner took a corner kick and connected with Christoph Baumgartner, who leveled for Hoffenheim at the Veltins-Arena.
After that, the draw seemed comfortable for the two sides, who did not create real chances of goal.
With the 1-1 draw, Schalke 04 remained in the 5th place with 37 points. In the next matchday, the Blues will face their arch-rivals, Borussia Dortmund, on Saturday. Meanwhile, Hoffenheim got dropped down to the 9th position, but with 35 points, only two points behind S04. On the same day, the squad will host Hertha Berlin.
