In a tough match this Saturday in front of the Yellow Wall at the Signal Iduna Park, Borussia Dortmund suffered but beat Freiburg 1-0 in the Bundesliga’s matchday 24. The winner was scored by English youngster Jadon Sancho, in the first half.
The first real chance was for the home team, after 14 minutes. Julian Brandt managed to open space inside the visitors’ area and found Thorgan Hazard who only had to touch to the middle of the area where Jadon Sancho was unmarked to open the scoring 1-0 Dortmund.
The match looked like it would heat up after the goal, but the first half can be summed up to just Sancho’s goal.
After the break, both sides changed their stance in the match. Dortmund decided to give the ball away to try to kill the game on the counterattacks, as Freiburg tried to find spaces to pierce the yellow wall.
Lucien Favre went for resting Dortmund’s rising star, Erling Haaland, but the manager eventually introduced the youngster. However, not even Haaland managed to increase Dortmund’s lead.
We can say that Dortmund’s true hero was Lukasz Piszczek, as the experienced player saved a goal just under the goal-line as the hosts secured a clean-sheet at home.
Achraf Hakimi still had the chance to double Dortmund’s lead by the end of the game, but his shot smashed the crossbar.
With the 1-0 win, Borussia Dortmund reached second-placed RB Leipzig with the same 48 points, but the Yellow and Black side has one game in hand, as Leipzig only plays on Sunday.
For the next matchday in the Bundesliga, BVB will have another tough duel ahead, as on Saturday they will face the other Borussia, as they will face Monchengladbach.
On the other hand, Freiburg is still in ninth place but will play the next matchweek, at home against Union Berlin also on Saturday.
