Samuel Eto’o gave an interview to Radio Catalunya to talk about his former club Barcelona. As a result, a statement from the Cameroonian called up attention with a piece of advice he gave to his former Barca teammate, Xavi.
Apparently, the former Barcelona striker has told Spaniard Xavi, who’s currently initiating his manager career, to go back to manage Barcelona.
“I told Xavi that, whatever happens, he has to return to Barcelona. And I said that he has to do this while the God of Football – Lionel Messi – is still there. They played together and it will make things easier for Xavi than for someone else.”
The two had been partners in Barcelona for a few seasons. Currently, Xavi is coaching the Qatari side Al-Sadd. In addition, the former player spoke of the possibility of the Catalan team having a new piece in the final-third, apart from Uruguay international Luis Suarez, who’s currently Barca’s number nine.
“I love Suarez. He’s building up an incredible story with Barcelona. Luis is always Luis, he is one of the best in that position. Of course, Barca have to reinforce themselves, but they don’t need to take off a general’s decorations”.
The Cameroonian joined the Catalan club in 2004 and played until 2009 when he left to sign for Inter Milan. So, he spent six years with Barcelona, a team in which he was very successful and got to play with the God of Football, as he referred to Messi.
So there were 199 games with 129 goals scored and eight titles won with the Catalan team. In addition, when he was playing for Barcelona, he was among the top three players in the world in 2005, so he understands what he’s talking about.
I also believe that Xavi should make his way back to Barcelona and stop with his “I’m not ready yet” talk. I mean, if Quique Setien is ready, why wouldn’t he? Go back to your club and enjoy the last moments of Messi captaining your side!.
