This Tuesday, Genoa welcomed Juventus for matchday 29 of the Serie A TIM. At the Luigi Ferraris Stadium, the Old Lady played well and dominated the match, winning by 3-1. Paulo Dybala, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Douglas Costas scored for the visitors. Andrea Pinamonti scored the consolation for the hosts.
Even though all the goals were scored in the second half, that didn’t mean the first half wasn’t interesting. Juve started putting pressure and forcing mistakes from the Rossoblu defense. In two opportunities, the visitors almost opened the scoring, in shots of Ronaldo and Federico Bernardeschi. Both, however, stopped at great saves from goalkeeper Mattia Perin.
Honestly, the 27-year-old keeper, who is on loan from Juventus, was the only reason the first half has finished goalless.
In the second half, however, the Italian could do nothing against the Old Lady’s great attack. Already at the 50th minute, the visitors broke the deadlock with Dybala. After receiving the ball from Juan Cuadrado, the Argentine rounded 3 players from Genoa’s defense and hit into the far corner to open the scoring.
Six minutes later, it was time for CR7 to grab his goal. On a fast play, the Portuguese star went forward and tried from outside the box, hitting a strong shot into the right corner, with no chances to Perin. It was the Portuguese’s first open play goal since the restart.
Then, at the 73rd minute, the Old Lady found the back of the net once again, making things even worse for the hosts. And what a goal. Douglas Costas got the ball outside the box and hit perfectly into the top left corner. Truly a masterpiece.
The hosts were still able to find their consolation, 3 minutes later, when Pinamonti hit a strong shot from close, making it impossible for goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny to save it. But it was not enough to avoid the loss.
With the victory, Juventus reached 72 points, four points ahead from second-place Lazio. On the other hand, Genoa stopped at 26 points, in 17th place, still fighting against relegation.
