AS Roma welcomed Fiorentina for matchday 36 of the Serie A TIM. At the Olympic Stadium, the hosts had a difficult time to leave with the three points, counting with a late goal to confirm their 2-1 victory. Jordan Veretout scored twice to give the victory to the home team. Nikola Milenkovic diminished for the visitors.
The first half started with both teams fighting in the midfield, trying to get the ball and take control of the game. After a few minutes, the team from the capital was able to create more plays but found a solid defense from the visitors. However, the home side was given the chance to break the deadlock at the 44th minute, when the referee awarded them a penalty. Veretout stepped up and converted from the spot, giving his team the lead before the half-time.
As in the first half, the Giallorossi had more the ball during the second half, however, Fiorentina knew how to explore the counter-attacks and started to create problems to Roma’s defensive line. At the 54th minute, after Erick Pulgar’s corner, Milenkovic headed into the back of the net to level the match.
As time went by, it seemed that the draw would be the final result, had the referee didn’t award Roma a penalty from goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano on Edin Dzeko, at the 87th minute.
Even though the foul was not very clear, he didn’t check on the VAR. Veretout, then, stepped up and once again converted spot-kick, confirming the hosts 2-1 victory.
With the three points, AS Roma keep on 5th place, being now with 64 points. Meanwhile, Fiorentina stopped with 43 points, in 12th place. Both teams come back to the pitch in the middle of the week. The Giallorossi will visit Torino on next Wednesday, while the Viola will welcome Bologna on the same day.
