Boavista and Rio Ave faced off for the last matchday of Liga NOS. At Estadio do Bessa, the visitors left with the three points thanks to an inspired Mehdi Taremi, who scored the two goals of the 2-0 victory. With that, Carlos Carvalhal’s men got a place in next season’s Europa League.
The first half started pretty busily. Already at the 6th minute, the away team had their first chance with Taremi’s attempt from 20 yards out, which went wide. The home team didn’t get scared and also went to the attacking field, making a good play on the left and obligating goalkeeper Pawel Kieszek to make a good save after a shot from outside the box.
The first goal of the match didn’t take long to happen, as, in the 17th minute, Rio Ave broke the deadlock. After some confusion in the edge of the box, the ball was left to Taremi, who just had to slam it into the corner to give his team a small advantage before half-time.
The second half was a little slower. The visitors had more the ball during the early minutes, being able to create some opportunities but not really threatening their opponents. On the other hand, Rio Ave took some time to actually start to attack again, but when they did, they scored their second goal. At the 84th minute, following a defending horror show between goalkeeper Helton Leite and a defender, the ball was left to Taremi, who put it inside the empty net and guaranteed his team’s victory by 2-0.
The three points were very important to Rio Ave, who were able to reach 55 points, finishing the League in the 5th position and getting a place on next season’s Europa League’s playoffs. Meanwhile, Boa Vista finished the season in 12th place, with 39 points.
