At the Westfalen Stadium, Borussia Dortmund hosted Bayer Leverkusen this Saturday in Bundesliga’s Matchday 4. We all know that it’s pretty hard to beat Dortmund in front of the Yellow Wall, and this time, it was no different. Dortmund displayed a great football and thrashed Leverkusen 4-0. Paco Alcacer, Marco Reus, twice, and Raphael Guerreiro scored for the hosts. English youth Jadon Sancho did not score but ended up with two assists. With the victory, Dortmund moves up to the provisional leadership in the Bundesliga, with nine points.
The match began pretty even, with both teams trying to impose themselves. The hosts tried to explore their fast wingers, but Leverkusen even could defend well. At least at early stages.
Slowly, Dortmund dominated the game, mainly through their high-pressing system. Reus had a good chance but stopped in a pretty save from Hradecky, who also saved the rebound. The goalkeeper, however, could do nothing when Hakimi found Alcacer, completely unmarked in the area. The Spaniard struck a first-time effort and opened the scoring. 1-0 Dortmund.
After the break, Dortmund cabe back better, and expanded their lead. Sancho, who has been performing below average by then, showed up and passed it to Alcacer, who was unselfish and let the ball pass for him to Reus fire home. 2-0 Dortmund.
Bayer Leverkusen showed no reaction and accepted Borussia’s pressure. Near to the end, Jadon Sancho conceded another assist and Guerreiro tapped in for the empty goal. 3-0, as Sancho recors his 5th assist in the Bundesliga this season. In the end, Reus made it four and wrapped up the victory.
Following the pretty good 4-0 win over Leverkusen, Dortmund will be back in action in front of the Yellow Wall this Tuesday, as they will face Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League debut.
