This Tuesday, Belfort welcomed Rennes for the quarterfinals of the French cup, at Roger-Serzian Stadium. The hosts were already making history, once they play the fourth division of French football, especially after qualifying with a victory against Montpellier. However, they did not resist against the 3rd place on Ligue 1 and lost by 3-0. The goals of the visitors were scored by Raphinha, M’Baye Niang, and Theoson Siebatcheu.

It was the home side who had the first good chance of the match, after six minutes of the match. And they were playing better until the 20th minute. After that, the Red and Black started controlling the match and 3 minutes later, they broke the deadlock with Raphinha.

The number 7 still had another chance in the first half, but he missed it. With that, the scoring was just 1-0 at half-time.

The second half started just like the first, with Belfort creating more opportunities, but not being effective. They had less ball possession and just 2 shots on target. But it took time to Rennes show the dominance of a team that is fighting for second place on the First Division. Their second goal came only at the 76th minute when they were awarded a penalty. Niang stepped up and converted from the spot.

With 2-0 up, the victory was basically settled. At the injury time, the visitors scored their third goal with Siebatcheu to guarantee their qualification with a 3-0 win.

Rennes qualified for the semifinals of the French Cup and wait for the opponents on the next round. Now, both teams will play for their national leagues. First, Belfort will face JA Drancy on Friday, for the fourth division of French football. Two days later, for Ligue 1, Rennes will trave to face Reims and try to keep a winning streak on the championship.
