Following the draw against Valladolid on the last Matchday in La Liga, Real Madrid had yet another disappointing game in the Spanish league. This time, on Sunday (1), the Merengues visited Villarreal at the Estadio de la Ceramica for La Liga’s Matchday 3 and ended up with a 2-2 draw. Moreno and Moi Gomez scored for the hosts, as the renegade Gareth Bale scored both goals for the visitors.
At the beginning of the match, the home owners were pushed by their supporters at La Ceramica and opened the scoring on 10 mins. Everything started with a Sergio Ramos poor ball, as Ekambi intercepted the pass, and fired, forcing Courtois to make a good save. The ball rebounded to Moreno, who struck a first-time effort into the back of the net. 1-0 Villarreal.
Real Madrid felt the blow but went on in the search of the equalizer. Benzema hit the post, but the goal just came in at the 45th minute, as Dani Carvajal and Jovic combined for a one-two, as the latter crossed to Bale, who tapped in. 1-1.
After the break, the visitors scored the second through Benzema, but the Frenchman’s goal was ruled out by the referee and confirmed with the VAR.
Villarreal retook the lead in the 73rd minute, with yet another huge contribution from Courtois. The Belgian keeper saved Moreno’s attempt, but once again delivered the rebound to a Villarreal player’s path. This time, to Moi Gomez, who slotted home. 2-1.
However, Real Madrid leveled once again. And for Zinedine Zidane’s despair, it was Bale once more. The Welshman made an individual move down the right side, cut to the left leg and hit the corner of Andres Fernandez, who could not reach the ball. 2-2.
Bale was Madrid’s hero, but he played the villain role at the same time, as he got sent off for a bad foul on Ontiveros. But in the end, the scoring remained unaltered.
With the result, the Spanish capital team dropped down to fifth place in the table, with five points in three games played. The Yellow Submarine also lost positions, taking 16th place with two points won so far. For the next round, Real Madrid host Levante at the Santigo Bernabeu, in a duel scheduled for the 14th, Saturday. On the same day, Villareal visits Leganes at Butarque Municipal Stadium.
