On Thursday, Manchester United defeated Derby County 3-0 at Pride Park Stadium. Luke Shaw, and Ighalo with two goals, scored the goals of the match. The visitors played an excellent game, especially in the first half, in which they were dominant.
It was a mix-up of emotions, as the game also marked the reencounter between the Red Devils, and Wayne Rooney, Man United’s legend, who currently plays for Derby.
The hosts were the brighter side at the early stages. Man United’s keeper, Sergio Romero, had to work a little bit to keep the clean sheet. Rooney had a chance to score, from a free-kick, but the Argentine keeper was there to send it to corner.
Man United responded on 33 minutes and managed to swing the net, through Luke Shaw. 1-0 United.
Shaw was also involved in the second goal, as he made a good individual move, got into the area and rolled it to Ighalo, who stretched himself to score. 2-0.
After the break, Derby kept on fighting for at least a consolation goal and had Rooney as their main weapon to do so. However, the Englishman was having a hard time against Romero, who pulled off some great saves.
Ighalo was at it again in the 70th minute to double his tally and score Man United’s third goal. Fred started it all, as he passed it to Ighalo. The Nigerian then combined for a give-and-go with Spaniard Juan Mata, who gave it back to Ighalo, who made it three. 0-3 Man United.
With the result, Manchester United are now qualified for the quarterfinals of the FA Cup, whose next opponent will be Norwich, who overcame the Spurs on the penalty shootouts.
