This Sunday, AC Milan welcomed Roma for matchday 28 of the Serie A TIM. At the San Siro Stadium, the hosts were able to get a 2-0 victory, which was built in the last minutes of the game. Ante Rebic and Hakan Calhanoglu scored the goals of the match.
The first half was, honestly, a little disappointing. It was clear that the teams were having problems to find a good pace and having difficulties to create opportunities. During the first 45 minutes, there was just one shot on target, which was made by the visitors. However, neither Gianluigi Donnarumma nor Antonio Mirante had to make good saves. With that, they went to the locker room goalless.
In the second half, things changed a little. Mainly because, as time passed by, Roma became clearly worn out physically. So as the end of the match approached, the hosts started to find spaces and create opportunities. Finally, at the 76th minute, they broke the deadlock. After a saved half volley from Franck Kessie, Rebic got the rebound and had two shot twice to put the ball into the back of the net.
13 minutes later, Milan got the chance to double the scoring when they were awarded a penalty after Theo Hernandez was brought down inside the box. Calhanoglu stepped up and didn’t give chances to goalkeeper Mirante with a strong shot on the top corner. With that, the scoring ended 2-0 to the home side.
With the victory, AC Milan got closer from the top 6, being now with 42 points, in 7th place. It is still possible for them to play Europa League next season. Meanwhile, Roma, 5th place with 48 points saw their difference to 4th place Atalanta go to almost 10 points, making it more difficult now to get a place on the qualifying zone for the Champions League.
