Real Madrid advanced to the quarterfinals of the King’s Cup with ease. Playing as visitors at La Romareda stadium in Zaragoza, coach Zinedine Zidane’s team thrashed Zaragoza by 4-0. The goals were scored by Raphael Varane, Lucas Vasquez, Vinicius Junior, and Karim Benzema.
The Madrid side opened the scoring after 6 minutes. After a short corner, Kroos received from Carvajal and crossed low to the box. The ball went through Vinicius Junior, who couldn’t touch it, and reached Varane. The defender only had to tap into the back of the net. 1-0 Real Madrid.
Zaragoza could not stop the attacks of Real Madrid, who doubled their lead still in the first half. Kroos recovered the ball from Vinicius Junior at the edge of the area and assisted Lucas Vazquez. The striker finished with the right foot, with no chances for goalkeeper Raton, in the 33rd minute.
Zidane’s men didn’t lose the pace in the second half. The third goal came at the 71st minute. Vinicius Junior received at the edge of the box, played a one-two with James Rodriguez and sent the ball past Zaragoza’s keeper.
The last goal of Real Madrid came 8 minutes later. Dani Carvajal low-crossed it to Benzema who was unmarked to complete the scoring on a left-footed shot.
With the victory, the Merengues were able to qualify to the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey. However, now Zinedine Zidane’s men will have to focus once again on La Liga, where they will have the difficult derby against Atletico Madrid ahead.
The match will be played on Saturday, at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. Zaragoza, who are playing the second division in Spain, are going to face Cadiz on Sunday, away from home.
The other teams qualified for the quarter-finals of the Copa del Rey were Athletico Bilbao, Villareal, Valencia, Real Sociedad, and Granada.
