With the 2018/19 season virtually ended at the level of aspirations for Real Madrid, the big focus on the Spanish capital now seems to be the succession of Santiago Solari who is the current manager ahead of the Spanish giants. And with the vacancy of the club’s “savior” already open, the local press split, and two well-known old names emerged forcefully in the match: Jose Mourinho and Zinedine Zidane.
The “As” published a report on Thursday that says the Merengue staff has already begun negotiating with Jorge Mendes, agent of Mourinho, to enable the return of the Portuguese to the Santiago Bernabéu. The contacts would have started last Wednesday, and this Thursday could be a “key day” for the talks.
The sports daily says that President Florentino Pérez’s intention is that Solari will no longer be in charge of the team next Sunday, against Valladolid. But in order to have Mourinho, the biggest obstacle would be to convince him – since the Portuguese would be afraid because of the relationship with players remaining from his previous passage and with part of the staff.
But “As” points out that Mourinho is, in fact, the second option of the Merengue staff. Mourinho is an alternative to Zidane, who would not be willing to take on the team with the season without title chances and “needing to make decisions that he did not want to a few months ago.”
The “Marca”, in turn, says there is still a chance Zidane return to Real Madrid months after leaving the club projecting that “it would be difficult to keep winning.” The newspaper says Florentino Perez wants the French for next season – instead of sacking Solari in the coming days.
The president – who could not convince Zizou to stay at the end of last season – would be convinced that the former player can return to the bad moment experienced by the team, due to his affection with Real Madrid. The Frenchman, however, would like to see a “clean” cast of names that he feels need to leave the club – the newspaper quotes Bale and Isco.
The publication stresses that one factor that could weigh Zidane back to the command of Real would be the fact of continuing to live in Madrid, where he maintains his residence. His children also continue to work for the meringue club – Luca is the third goalkeeper of the main team, and Elyaz is in the base categories. Enzo acts in the Rayo Majadahonda, in the metropolitan area of the capital.
Well guys, who do you back to replace Solari ahead of Madrid? I personally prefer Mourinho, only because he would sink Madrid even more haha. But I reckon Zidane would be better if they want to keep being recognized as the European Kings.
