Leaders of the German Bundesliga, RB Leipzig lost 2-0 to Eintracht Frankfurt this Saturday, away from home, in a game for the 19th matchday of the domestic tournament.
It was the first defeat for Leipzig in the League in 9 matches, and now they see second-placed Bayern Munich getting closer and closer, as the current Bundesliga holders won Schalke 04 5-0.
The difference between both Leipzig and Bayern Munich is of only one point right now.
Despite the Bavarians, there is also Borussia Monchengladbach, who also beat Mainz 3-1 and are only two points behind the leaders.
Despite the defeat against Frankfurt, Leipzig was superior in the first half, but wasted chances and ended up punished at Commerzbank Arena, reaching their third defeat in the national competition.
Technically better, the visitors created good opportunities with German striker Timo Werner, Malian midfielder Amadou Haidara and French striker Christopher Nkunku, but the goal did not come and the game went to the break with all square in the scoreboard.
And for Leipzig’s bad luck, Frankfurt surprised at the beginning of the second half and opened the scoring right away. On 48 minutes, Malian right-back Almamy Toure landed a beautiful shot from outside the box and rocketed the nets of the German leaders. What a lovely strike from Toure. 1-0 Eintracht Frankfurt.
Being 1-0 down away, the visitors went up in search of the equalizer, but who took advantage were the hosts. In the final minute of the match, on 90+4, Serbian midfielder Filip Kostic waws assisted from Goncalo Paciencia and scored from close-range. 2-0.
It’d be lovely to see a team other than Bayern Munich winning the League this season. However, RB Leipzig, Borussia Monchengladbach, and even Borussia Dortmund gotta make sure that the title stays away from Bavaria this year!
