This Wednesday, Paris Saint-Germain showed total control of the game and won the match against Dijon, at Gaston Gerard Stadium, for the quarterfinals of the French Cup. The own goals from Wesley Lautoa and Senou Coulibaly, added to the goals from Kylian Mbappe, Thiago Silva, and Pablo Sarabia guaranteed the 6-1 victory and the place on the semifinals. Mounir Chouiar scored the consolation goal for the hosts.
The game had barely started and PSG was already making it clear that they wanted a rout. In the first minute, Bakker sent a low cross into the box, which Lautoa tried to clear and ended up putting the ball into his own net.
The expected was Dijon getting nervous and having more difficulties in the match, but they were able to equalize the match at the 13th minute. After a mistake from Herrera in the midfield, Chouiar shot from the edge of the box and scored a beautiful goal.
The match was equal again, so PSG once again used their full strength. It took them basically all the first half to get ahead on the scoring once again. At the 44th minute, Julian Draxler stole the ball, Mbappe got it, rounded the defense and put the ball into the back of the net. Before that, PSG had already had a disallowed goal from Cavani.
The second half was a nightmare for the home side. As soon as the 50th minute arrived, the visitors increased their lead after Thiago Silva was able to head the ball to the net without even jumping. 5 minutes later, Mbappe’s shot was saved by goalkeeper Runarsson, but Sarabia took advantage of the rebound and scored the fourth goal.
At the 86th, Mbappe tried to assist Cavani, however, the ball deflected in Coulibaly and tricked Dijon’s goalkeeper, who couldn’t save the fifth goal. Finally, in a counterattack already at the injury time, Sarabia put final numbers to the match. 6-1 for PSG.
PSG, then, qualified for the semifinals of the French Cup and will wait for their opponent on the next round. In the meantime, they focus once again in Ligue 1, where they will travel to face Amiens. On the other hand, Dijon will now put all their efforts into the national competition, fighting against the relegation. Their next match is against Bordeaux, away from home.
