The future of Argentine striker Mauro Icardi was a conundrum. Many said that he would go back to Italy and there were many clubs there interested in him. However, after months of waiting, he finally knows where he will play next season.
That’s because Paris Saint-Germain announced on Sunday, the 31st of May, the player’s permanence in the French club until 2024.
Previously, after arriving from Inter Milan, the striker would remain in the Parisian club only for this season. Basically, because it was his best option after all the problems he had at the Italian club.
According to the newspaper “Gazzetta Dello Sport”, PSG had paid an amount of 50 million Euros and also and an additional bonus of 7 million Euros in order to have the Argentine for another 4 years.
With that, Juventus’ whish of bringing the striker was destroyed. The Old Lady was counting on Icardi to possibly replace Higuain, once the striker has received proposals from other clubs, including River Plate from Argentina. On the other hand, it was perfect for PSG, once they will probably lose Cavani at the end of the season. The Uruguayan also has received proposals from several clubs.
We all know how good Icardi is. For Inter Milan, he played 219 matches and found the back of the net 124 times. He also gave 28 assists to his teammates. However, his bad relationship with the board of the Italian club made it impossible for him to continue there. The protests by the Italian fans were also an important part of his departure for France.
With PSG, the athlete was one of the highlights of the season and has so far 31 matches for the French club, in which he scored 20 goals.
Those are good numbers. Let’s just hope he keeps his good football and doesn’t let the same problems that happened in Italy to happen in France.
