Opening Matchday 4 in the French Ligue 1, Metz hosted Paris Saint-Germain. It was the first game that the Parisian played without their stars, Kylian Mbappe, and Edinson Cavani, both out due to injuries. However, it wasn’t a big deal for PSG to beat Metz 2-0. The Parisians showed a good togetherness and counting on goals from Angel Di Maria, and Choupo-Moting reached the win.
In addition to the two stars in the front, the German manager Thomas Tuchel had also another four absences for injuries: Draxler, Ander Herrera, Kehrer, and Diallo. Also, he didn’t count on Neymar, who is training apart until he and PSG decide the Brazilian’s future ahead of the last days of the European Transfer Window, which ends next Monday.
PSG started the match threatening Metz, and it seemed like opening the scoring was a mere matter of time. On 10 minutes, Bernat was tripped inside the area, by Fofana, as the referee awarded PSG a penalty. Veteran Di Maria stepped up and scored for the visitors. 0-1 PSG.
The Parisians kept pushing for doubling the lead, and it happened still in the first half. At 43, following a good set-piece from Verratti, Choupo-Moting went higher than anyone and powered a header home into the corner. 0-2 PSG.
In the final stage, PSG had no work to hold and win without giving the host team a chance to react. Already in additions, Di María left the field with knee pain, worrying the coaching staff. The PSG medical department, however, will have time to recover the injured, as the team will not play until September 14, due to the FIFA International break.
Paris Saint-Germain reached the same nine points as Rennes and took the provisional lead by goal difference. Four teams can also reach nine points after the round: Lyon, Lille, Angers, and Nice, who face Rennes on Sunday, away from home.
