This Saturday, the leader Porto welcomed Rio Ave at Estadio do Dragao, for matchday 21 of Liga NOS. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Mbemba scoring for the Dragons, while Taremi equalized for the visitors. Even with the draw, the hosts retained the top of the competition, while the Vila do Conde team maintained its good series of eight games without losing in the championship.
Porto started the match better. At the 4th minute, Sergio Oliveira’s header obligated goalkeeper Kieszek to made the first good save of the match. But the hosts were able to break the deadlock still in the first half. At the 18th minute, after a corner, the ball was left to Nakajima. The number 10 assisted Mbemba, who put the ball into the back of the net.
Rio Ave didn’t feel the goal and they kept doing their game. At the 32nd minute, they found the equalizer. After playing a one-two with Diogo Figueiras, Taremi had the tranquility to leave the defender behind and send the ball past the goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin.
Porto’s goalkeeper still had to make a great save in the first half to stop the visitors from getting the comeback, after a free-kick by Nuno Santos.
The Dragons returned better for the second half and Marega had two good chances from scoring. The first once in a shot from outside the box and, the other, he even put the ball into the back of the net, but the goal was ruled out because of offside from Soares.
Rio Ave also brought some danger to the hosts and just wasn’t able to score because of Marchesin, who made great saves. In the end, the match was pretty exciting, but it ended in the 1-1 draw that was made during the first 45 minutes.
With the result, Porto maintained the lead, with 60 points. Rio Ave, on the other hand, maintained their good streak without defeats and remain in the 5th position, with 38 points.
For the next matchday, Porto will visit Famalicao on Sunday, while Rio Ave will welcome Pacos de Ferreira on Friday.
