So the Ligue 1 has a champion and once again is PSG! With the League paralyzed in the 29th matchday due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the French government decided to ban all competitions in French territory. With that, the French Ligue 1 had to end the tournament.
However, it wasn’t like in Holland, where it was basically nulled and void, but with a “fancy” name of “canceling the Eredivisie” with no Champions. The Ligue 1 made justice and awarded PSG the title. They basically took every team’s average Points per Game, and with that, the Parisians were made champions for the 9th time.
Also, Lille, Reims, and Nice will play the UEFA Europa League as Amiens and Toulouse are the relegated ones. Lorient and Lens gained access to the main league.
Paris Saint-Germain, which has nothing to do with the virus, takes another cup to the Parc des Princes.
France’s greatest team of the decade keeps accumulating national trophies. The rich and full of star’s club dispatches opponents and arrives strong to win the championship inside their country, being it the national league or the French Cup.
However, winning national titles is not the goal for the French giant anymore. All investments are focused on winning the long-awaited Champions League.
This season, the team went to the quarterfinals, after eliminating Borussia Dortmund at home, already behind closed gates because of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is not known how and when the European competition will resume, as the virus is spread all over the world, preventing not only sports but all events that contain agglomerations.
Congratulations to the Parisians!
Of course, it wasn’t an appreciated decision for everyone, as the relegated teams could contest the decision, but personally, I think it’s fair.
I mean, there have to be relegated teams, and much more than half of the League has already been played, the null and void option is nonsense at this point.
With this new Ligue 1 title, PSG overtook Monaco and Nantes, who have both eight titles. With this triumph the club reached nine, reaching Olympique de Marseille and are second only to Saint-Etienne who has ten.
