At the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal thrashed Newcastle by 4-0 for matchday 26 of the Premier League. The goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe, Mesut Ozil, and Alexandre Lacazette happened all in the second half to give the victory to the hosts.
Although Ozil played well and remembered the good times of Real Madrid, Arsenal didn’t have a good first half and finished little on goal. Newcastle also has shown a lack of creativity and was pragmatic as always.
Mikel Arteta’s team talk in the locker room was probably very good because the Gunners came back to the second half completely different.
At the 54th minute, they finally broke the deadlock with Aubameyang. Pepe cut inside and swung in a deep cross that found the head of the number 14, who powered an effort beyond Dubravka and into the far corner.
Three minutes later, it was Pepe’s turn to score. After a low pass from Saka, the number 19 lashed into the bottom corner from six yards to double the scoring.
The Magpies had a good chance with Saint-Maximin, who hit the post at the 77th, but were not able to treat more than that. Arsenal, on the other hand, continues putting pressure and, with 7 minutes of injury time, scored two goals in the last minutes. At the 90th, after a counter-attack, Ozil swept a composed finish beyond the helpless Dubravka from close-range.
Five minutes later, Pepe found Lacazzete unmarked and passed to the strike, who rifled an unstoppable finish into the top corner from 12 yards.
With the result, the London team went to 34 points but remained in the 10th position. Newcastle, who had come from four games without losing, dropped two positions and came in 13th, with 31 points.
The Spurs will now travel to Greece to face Olympiacos on Thursday, for the Europa League, before the match against Everton, next Sunday, for matchday 27 of the Premier League. Newcastle, on the other hand, will face Crystal Palace, away, on Saturday.
