Osasuna went to the San Mames Stadium for matchday 24 of the Spanish League and left with the 3 points. Oier Sanjurjo scored the only goal of the victory by 1-0 against Athletico Bilbao.
The Lions started playing on the attack and after five minutes into the game, they had their first shot, even though it was blocked. They kept putting pressure and creating, but with no success. Osasuna took 15 minutes to really get into the game, but the hosts continued being the brighter side.
However, the “Rojillos” were the ones to find the back of the net, at the 29th minute. After a free-kick, Darko Brasanac headed the ball to the goal. Goalkeeper Unai Simon was able to make a good save, but Sanjurjo was faster than the defense and was able to get the rebound to put the ball into the back of the net.
In the second half, the hosts were still the brightest side. Unai Vencedor hit the crossbar on a free-kick and Inaki Williams’ header was saved by the goalkeeper. There were still two moments were Athletic Bilbao complained about possible penalties, but in both the referee said nothing happened. In my opinion, he was right. On the first play, Williams pass hit Unai Garcia’s arm. On the second, again with the number 9 from Bilbao, goalkeeper Sergio Herrera took out his arm before it hit the striker’s leg.
Honestly, the hosts deserved the victory, by everything they did during the 90 minutes, but football is not always fair.
With the victory, Osasuna went to 11th place, with 31 points, the same as Athletic Bilbao, who dropped to the 10th place.
Both teams come back to the pitch next weekend, for matchday 25 of La Liga. Bilbao will face Alaves, away from home, on Sunday. On the same day, Osasuna will welcome Granada.
