On the night of last Friday, Racing and Newell’s Old Boys faced each other at Racing’s El Cilindro. It was a well-disputed duel that ended up in a 1-1 draw. Thus, the equality on the scoreboard was not good for any of the two teams, who missed the chance to move up on the table.
Racing scored with Leonel Miranda in the first half, as NOB leveled through Palacios, in the second half.
The first 45 minutes were well balanced as both sides searched for creating chances to score. The visitors were the ones who got closer to do so at the early stages, as Palacios hit the post on 4 minutes.
Racing played down the wings, whipping crosses to the box in order for someone to send it to the back of the nets. It was Miranda who did so, as he got the loose ball and smashed home opening the scoring for the hosts.
After the break, the game was dominated by NOB. With several chances created, the team from Rosario pushed hard for the equalizer. So, on 60 minutes, in a sprint from Palacios, the player slotted home past the onrushing goalkeeper Arias. 1-1.
Following the equalizer, both sides threw themselves at each other and forced the keepers to pull off some great saves to keep the scoring the same until the last minute.
With the draw, Racing is in 4th place in the Argentine Superliga table, with 36 points. Almost the same situation as Newell’s Old Boys, who ranks 5th, on 35 points.
Racing’s next game will be the Copa Libertadores debut, next Thursday against the Venezuelan side Estudiantes Merida.
On the other hand, NOB will only return to the field next Sunday, at home, against Godoy Cruz, in the last matchday of the Argentine Superliga.
