Atletico Madrid welcomed Mallorca this Friday for matchday 34 of La Liga. At the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, the hosts played well and got a good 3-0 victory over their opponents. Two goals from Alvaro Morata and one from Koke guaranteed the three points for the Colchoneros.
The first half started with the visitors going forward. Already in the early minutes, goalkeeper Jan Oblak was obligated to work after Takefusa Kubo’s attempt. However, after a few minutes, Atleti managed to control the match.
With that, the hosts started getting more in the attacking field, bringing more and more danger to the away side. The goal was a matter of time, but Atletico got a little help in that, as in the 29th minute, they were awarded a penalty after Aleksandar Sedlar brought Morata down inside the box. The number 9 himself stepped up and took the pen, which goalkeeper Manolo Reina saved and the Spanish striker missed the rebound. However, he was given a second chance after VAR confirmed some players invaded the box. This time, Morata didn’t miss and put the ball into the back of the net.
The Colchoneros managed to double their lead still before half time, at 45+4, and again with Morata. This time, number 9 received the ball from Marcos Llorente and bet the marker to hit the back of the net.
Losing by two goals, Mallorca returned for the second half trying to diminish Atleti’s lead. However, it didn’t seem to be the better day for their strikers, as they were lacking aim.
After some minutes of being threatened by the visitors, the hosts decided it was time to increase their advantage and seal their victory. So, at the 79th minute, Koke hit a beautiful shot from outside the box. The ball still deflected in Joan Sastre before dying into the back of the net.
With the 3-0 victory, Atletico Madrid remained in 3rd place, with 62 points, 5 points ahead of Sevilla, who still plays. Meanwhile, Mallorca stopped at 29 points, in 18th place.
