After a tough period – mainly comparing how he ended last season and how he began this one – Mohamed Salah seems to be back on track! The Egyptian King has scored two goals of four against Red Star Belgrade at the temple of England, Anfield Road, and sit on top of Group C of the UEFA Champions League Group Stages, after the late PSG equalizer against Napoli in France.
The game was not that easy at the beginning though. The away side threatened and almost scored in a half-volley from close-range with 17 on the clock. Three minutes later, and the Reds responded in a great style. Xherdan Shaqiri triggered Andrew Robertson on the left-wing and the Scottish crossed it to Roberto Firmino, the Brazilian pirate, who fired home and broke the deadlock at Anfield.
Despite the not so good starting, Alisson Becker became a mere spectator on the pitch, almost as he was a privileged Liverpool supporter. The Reds doubled the lead on the stroke of the first half through Salah. Shaqiri was again the architect of the play. The Swiss got the ball, drove forward and picked Salah up. The Egyptian King found himself face to face against the goalkeeper and made it two.
After the break, Salah had the chance to score his 50th Liverpool goal in 65 matches. Sadio Mane got fouled by Vladimir Stojkovic inside the are and the referee confirmed it. Penalty to Liverpool. Salah stepped up and added one more on the scoring. 3-0 Liverpool.
Mane had also his chance from the Penalty spot. Shaqiri had a set-piece, almost like a mini corner on the left and the ball ended up deflecting off on the hand of the Serb defender. Another one to Liverpool. As Salah was subbed off for Daniel Sturridge, Mane stepped up, but the Goalkeeper denied him.
However, the Senegalese had the chance to redeem himself. Sturridge passed it to Mane, who fired home past the keeper to wrap the game up. 4-0 Liverpool.
Following the good win over Red Star, the Reds focus back on the National League, as they will face Cardiff at the same Anfield on Saturday, before a tough trip to the Emirates, where they will take on Arsenal.
