After beating Real Madrid back in the quarterfinals, Real Sociedad welcomed the underdogs of the King’s Cup and had a difficult time. Mirandes, who won against Villarreal on the quarterfinals, made a good game, but couldn’t avoid the 2-1 defeat. Mikel Oyarzabal and Martin Odegaard scored the goals that gave the victory to the home side. Matheus Aias scored the goal from the visitors.
Real Sociedad took the lead within 8 minutes in the first half. Portu tried to clear the ball inside the box but ended up bringing Odei down, the referee awarded the Royals a penalty and Oyarzabal converted from the spot.
At the end of the first half, Matheus Aias equalized things for Mirandes. The Brazilian cut back onto his left and hit a low shot into the bottom-left corner. The ball still deflected off Nacho Monreal, which probably made it easier to beat goalkeeper Remiro. It was his 6th goal in the competition, which makes him the top scorer of the King’s Cup.
Even though the visitors were better during most part of the first half, they didn’t celebrate for a long time. At the 42nd minute Norwegian Odegaard, who was loaned by Real Madrid, took advantage of a rebound inside the box and put the ball into the left corner to give the lead once again to the Royals.
In the second half, both sides had their chances but weren’t able to score and the final scoring was 2-1. Differently from the other stages, the semifinals of the King’s Cup are played in two legs, so Mirandes still have a good chance to qualify, once the next match will be at their stadium, and continue on their historic campaign. Sociedad, who are trying to get their third title, have the advantage and can either draw or win again to get their place in the final.
