This Saturday, Barcelona forgot the loss in the El Classico last week and were able to find the victory once again, even it being a small 1-0 against Real Sociedad at home. The only goal of the match was scored by the star Lionel Messi, with 9 minutes left on the clock.
Playing at Camp Nou, it was obvious that Barca had to start with everything they got. And they did, but not quite right. Their attacks brought some danger to goalkeeper Remiro, who made some good saves during the first half. And he was the only one working during the 45 initial minutes, once Real Sociedad couldn’t create any real chances of scoring.
The beginning of the second half was a little different. Both sides were slow and just at the 65th minute that another good chance for Barcelona came, with Rakitic. Once again, he stopped at the good goalkeeper from the visitors. After attacking so much, it was really frustrating for Barca’s fans and players that they weren’t able to score. But it didn’t last until the end.
At the 81st minute, the Catalan side was awarded a penalty. After a cross from the left, VAR checked a handball from defender Le Normand inside the box. Messi stepped up and, for Quique Setien’s happiness, converted from the spot. They deserved the goal after all the good chances, especially the Argentine, who was the best player.
With the victory, Barcelona went currently to the first place of the table, with 58 points. They are just two points ahead of Real Madrid, who still play this weekend. Real Sociedad remained in the 6th position, with the same 43 points.
Now, both sides will rest and prepare for the next matchday of La Liga. Barca will face Mallorca on Saturday, away, and after that, they will have the second leg match against Napoli for the UCL. Real Sociedad will play this Tuesday, against Eibar, for matchday 24. Then, on Sunday, they will face Osasuna for matchday 28.
