This Saturday, Barcelona welcomed Getafe and won by 2-1, in matchday 24 of the Spanish League. The victory was important for Quique Setien’s men, once they continue fighting for the title of La Liga. The Catalan’s goals were scored by Antoine Griezmann and Sergi Roberto. Angel Rodriguez scored the only goal for the visitors.
Even playing away from home, it was Getafe who started off as the brightest side and they could even score a goal, which was ruled out by the VAR. However, the hosts were the ones to break the deadlock. At the 33rd minute, Lionel Messi gave a brilliant assist to Griezmann, who poked the ball over Soria to open the scoring.
Six minutes later, Barcelona grabbed the second goal. After Firpo sent a dangerous cross from the left, and Fati failed to make any connection with it, Sergio Roberto was in the right place to side-foot the ball into the back of the net.
Getafe did not give up and managed to score in the middle of the second half. At the 66th minute, Rodriguez got between Pique and Roberto to send a delightful side-footed volley from 16 yards out, into the bottom-right corner. No chances at all for goalkeeper Ter Stegen.
With the result, Barcelona reached 52 points, and remain in second place. The team has now the same score as Real Madrid, but the Merengues will still play in this round, against Celta de Vigo, on Sunday. Meanwhile, Getafe parked at the 42 points, in the third position.
Barca will have midweek off, once their UCL match is due to next week, and prepare to face Eibar, at home, for matchday 25 of La Liga. Getafe, on the other hand, will play on Thursday against Ajax, for the first leg of Europa League’s round of 32.
