The UEFA Champions League will reach the quarter-finals with the whole English sauce. With authority, Liverpool beat Bayern Munich in Germany by 3-1 and secured the fourth berth of a British team in the quarterfinals of the European Competition. Sadio Mané lived a great night by scoring twice – both world class goals – and Virgil van Dijk completed the score – Liverpool’s center-back, Joel Matip, ended up scoring an own goal for Bayern in an attempt of clearing the ball off the area. However, it wasn’t that bad whatsoever.
We can say that Liverpool defense managed to shut the powerful Bayern’s front down during the entire 180 minutes of both legs, since the Bavarians didn’t score any goals, except for that Matip own goal. It doesn’t mean they haven’t tried at all though, as Liverpool held on in a very hostile atmosphere at the Allianz Arena. Bayern initiated better, but Liverpool turned the situation around and in the 26th minute, Mane sent Neuer to the shops with a brilliant turn past the German goalkeeper and firing home in a beauty looping finish. The Bavarians felt the tough blow, but the destiny helped them, as at the 38th, Matip scored an own goal to give them hopes.
The 1-1 was already good for the English giants, but Liverpool came back much better in the final stage. Bayern stopped playing, and the English goals came out naturally. At 69th, Van Dijk arouses higher than the defense head home into the back of the net. Mane, 15 minutes later, received Salah’s wonderful cross and beat Neuer for the second time in the classic European night for Liverpool, in a diving header.
With this amazing 3-1 win over Bayern, Liverpool will wait until Friday, when they will get to know their opponents in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.
