Manchester City welcomed Italy’s Atalanta at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, in the UEFA Champions League Matchday 3 of the Group Stages. The Cityzens had once again the luck of being drawn in a very easy Group, but it can be tricky sometimes. That’s what Atalanta showed when they opened the scoring at the Etihad. However, Pep Guardiola’s side went on to come back and ended up beating the Italians 5-1. Malinovsky opened the scoring to Atalanta, as Sergio Aguero, twice, and Raheem Sterling, who completed a hat trick, gave City the three points.

City started the match at a slow pace, but still managed to keep the possession. However, that did not intimidate the modest visitors, who went on and were awarded a penalty, converted by Malinovsky, on 28 mins. 0-1 Atalanta.

However, the Cityzens were quick to react, with two goals from Agüero just four minutes apart. The first after receiving assistance from Sterling at 34, then converting a penalty at 38 minutes.

But these appearances as a provider from Sterling were just the beginning of his show, which came even better in the second half when he alone consolidated the victory. His first goal came at 58, after a well-crafted play between De Bruyne and Foden, as the ball fell to the Englishman, who rocketed home. 3-1..

At 64, Sterling received a pass from Gundogan, dribbled past a marker and hit with style, marking the fourth. And then, he completed his hat trick as he was released and made it five for the hosts. 5-1 City.

Foden was even sent off in the last minutes of the game, but nothing really changed in the scoring.

Man City reached nine points and sustained their five-point clear on top lead, and the qualification seems to be on the way. Their next match is against Atalanta once again, but this time away from home, on November 6th.
