Pep Guardiola’s contract with Manchester City will end in 2021. With that said, his future ahead of the English club is still uncertain, once they have been punished by UEFA and will be out of any international competitions for at least two years. Another issue is that Pep’s salary would probably be reduced due to the effect that the Covid-19 will have on the English club’s bank.
With that being said, it is obvious that Man City is already considering new names, in case the Spanish manager decides to leave the club. Two possible options are Patrick Viera and Mauricio Pochettino. Both are strong names to take over the Citizens.
Patrick Viera is a former French player and one of the main names to replace Guardiola. He had a brilliant career playing football, for teams such as Arsenal, Juventus, Inter Milan and even at Man City, where he ended his professional career.
As a coach, he was the manager of City’s u-23 team before leaving for the USA, where he took over the New York City team. Since June 2018, he had become the manager of Nice, in France.
He commanded the team in 66 matches, with them being 26 victories, 19 draws, and 21 losses.
Mauricio Pochettino is the other alternative, and he is well known in England. The Argentine manager has much more experience than the French, especially in the Premier League, in which he commanded Tottenham. Because of that, he may be a better alternative for Manchester City. His numbers with the Spurs were good, even though he never got any title there. It was with him that the English team had their best season, where they reached the final of the UEFA Champions League.
The Citizens will have to see which one is the best option if Pep Guardiola really leaves. And, even though many fans wouldn’t like it, it is the most probable thing to happen.
