Mallorca welcomed Celta Vigo this Tuesday, for matchday 33 of La Liga. AT the Iberostar Stadium, the home side trashed the visitors by 5-1 and guaranteed the three points. Ante Budimir, twice, Cucho Hernandez, Alejandro Pozo, and Salva Sevilla scored for the hosts. Iago Aspas scored the consolation for the visitors.
Mallorca didn’t take long to break the deadlock. As soon as the 13th minute arrived, they were already given the opportunity to score after Dani Rodriguez was brought down inside the box by Santi Mina. After the VAR check, they were awarded a penalty. Budimir stepped up and converted from the spot.
It didn’t look like Celta felt the goal, as right after it they started creating more and getting to the attack. Twice, goalkeeper Manolo Reina had to make good saves to keep his team’s lead.
Then, at the 27th minute, the hosts were able to double the scoring. Juan Hernandez shot from inside the box and put the ball into the back of the net, giving the home club a bigger advantage.
The visitors once again tried to find a goal, but this time their opponent’s defense was organized and didn’t let them create that much chances.
Before the end of the first half, there was still time for another goal to the hosts. At the 40th minute, Alejandro Pozo controlled the ball and shot into the back of the net. With that, they went to the locker room three goals ahead of the scoring.
The second half also started with a penalty, but this time, to the away side. Already at the 50th minute, Santi Mina was brought down inside the box. Iago Aspas stepped up and converted from the spot, putting his team just a little back into the game.
However, it didn’t take long until Mallorca found the back of the net again. 2 minutes later, Budimir scored his second goal of the match and the fourth of his team. With that, it became more and more difficult to Celta get an equalizer.
Already at the 60th minute, the hosts reached the fifth goal, this time with Salva Sevilla. After that, Celta tried to decrease the difference, but once again stopped on goalkeeper Reina. In the end, the scoring was 5-1 to the hosts.
With the good victory, Mallorca reached 29 points, however, it was not enough to leave the relegation zone, as they remain in 18th place. Celta Vigo, on the other hand, stopped at 34 points, in 17th place.
