Lyon is currently the most successful team in women’s football worldwide and there is no doubt about that.
They are dominant not only inside of their county, where they have won the last 14 French Leagues but also in the continent. Lyon has won six titles in the Women’s Champions League, being the last four in a row. And they can win another trophy of the European League, once they are in the quarterfinals, where they will face Bayern Munich.
Lyon’s hegemony in Europe is indisputable and this partly comes from the initiatives of club president Jean Michel Aulas, who for almost 20 years has offered women the same working conditions as the male team. Which is a rare thing especially in football.
However, Lyon can and is considered an example for other teams around the world to be inspired. They have good work conditions, good planing, and amazing players. And all that made them the victorious club they are nowadays. Those who saw the Women’s World Cup last year certainly heard of many players of Lyon.
And, with the popularity of the team and, thankfully, of Women’s Football, the girls will have their career told in a documentary. “Les Joueuses”, or “The Players”, debuts on September 2, in Lyon, when a new season of championships in Europe begins. In the rest of France, it will debut from 9 September.
The film will not only show the routine of the team, but will also have testimonials from the main players, and the backstage of training and matches. The production of the documentary was made by Julie Gayet, who states that she already imagined producing a film about women, but that it was not only for women.
For us, women who love football, this movie is another great step. It is a chance of knowing the players better and getting to see our idols in their day-by-day at this amazing club.
