On Wednesday Lyon and Juventus faced each other for the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16. At the Parc Olympique Lyonnais Stadium, in Lyon, the French side managed to hold the pressure of the Italians and secured their advantage with a 1-0 victory. Lucas Tousart scored the winning goal.

The first minutes were pure pressure from the visitors. At the 3rd minute, Cristiano Ronaldo crossed it to the area as the ball went very close to the post. Soon after, on the 20th, it was the turn of the hosts to scare their opponents. Maxwell Cornet took a corner kick and Karl Toko Ekambi’s header hit the crossbar.

At the 31st minute, the French team finally reached the goal. Houssem Aouar made a beautiful individual play after a throw-in and crossed for Lucas Tousart to finish from close range into the back of the net and put the home side ahead on the scoring.

The second half started once again with Juventus pushing forward and creating chances. The Old Lady tried everything to equalize things up, but they were not effective, and Lyon did a good job stopping them and securing the victory,

The teams will only meet again on March 17, in Turin, at Allianz Stadium, for the second leg of the round of 16 of UEFA Champions League. The 1-0 guarantees an advantage to the French, however, playing at home, it is totally possible for Juventus to get a good victory and qualify for the quarter-finals.

However, both teams have commitments for the national leagues before thinking about the UCL again. Lyon face Saint-Etienne on Sunday, for matchday 27 of Ligue 1, at Parc Olympique Lyonnais. Juventus, on the other hand, would face Inter Milan on Sunday, at home, however, due to the Corona Virus’ problem in Italy the match was postponed, without a set date.
