This Saturday Lyon beat Bordeaux away from home for the French Ligue 1. In a big game at the Matmut Atlantique Stadium, the visitors took the lead and came out with the three important points in the fight for a spot in the next UEFA Champions League. Maxwell Cornet and Moussa Dembele made it for Lyon. Jimmy Briand scored for Bordeaux.
Even though they were playing away from their home, Lyon players didn’t seem to notice that. Raul Garcia’s side had 22 shots on Bourdeaux goalkeeper Costil’s goal. Ball possession was also very good for them, nearing 60% at the end of the game.
Within 15 minutes of the match, Bordeaux was able to open the scoring with a right-footed shot from the center of the box to the bottom left corner made by Briand.
However, despite being behind in the scoring, Lyon knew to have the patience and waited until the second half to turn the game around in less than five minutes.
The first goal came at the 50th minute, from Cornet after Dembele’s pass. The number 27 received down the left, cut to the middle and hit strong at the right corner. The ball deflected off a player from the home side and gave no chance to the opposing goalkeeper.
3 minutes later came the second goal, it was Cornet’s turn to return the favor. The Ivorian drove forward and saw Dembele entering the back of the area. He received the pass and dropped a missile with no chances for the keeper. 1-2 Lyon.
With the victory, Lyon moved up to the fifth place with 29 points. However, the Gones may still lose their position during this Matchday. The next match will be against Nantes on Saturday for the French Cup.
Bordeaux, on the other hand, remains with 26 points in the competition. The team occupies the 13th position and now faces the fourth division Pau FC for the French Cup. The game takes place on Thursday.
