Aged 17, Harvey Elliott arrived in Liverpool in July last year and is one of the youngest players in the main squad. The youngster is considered to be one of the greatest promises of English Football and had already played some games under Jurgen Klopp.
This time, however, the young man got involved in a polemic after an interview with the English newspaper The Athletic. In this interview, the striker says he received a Real Madrid proposal last year, and the reason why he refused it and ended up signing for Liverpool.
“I said no to Real Madrid because it’s a club that I don’t like anymore after what Ramos did to Salah in that UEFA Champions League final in Kyiv”
For those who don’t remember what Elliott is referring to, it happened back in the 2017/18 Champions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool. Early in the first half, Sergio Ramos performed a kind of an armlock move against Mohamed Salah as both of them fell on the pitch, with the Egyptian player, who was living his prime form, forced to be subbed off due to a shoulder injury.
Later on this very same game, the Real Madrid defender still elbowed Liverpool’s goalkeeper Loris Karius, who failed twice after that in two key moments to give Real Madrid the title in a 3-1 win over the Reds.
Elliott surely gained some extra points with Liverpool fans and with Mo Salah himself after these quotes. Ramos until now claims he didn’t intend to nearly break Salah’s arm with a banned Judo skill and also giving Loris Karius a head concussion, but we all know that Ramos could have easily avoided both of his actions that culminated to Liverpool losing that year’s Champions League.
